Meet Clyde. Heather (who lives around the corner) hosted a sock animal craft afternoon yesterday and I got to make this little guy out of my old socks. He needs some eyeballs, but is otherwise pretty awesomely cute. It was such a fun and relatively easy craft that I have big plans for future nap-times. But not current nap-time.Instead of producing cuddly creatures, I've been checking everyone else' blogs this morning. There has been a bloom of baby blogs to keep up with all of a sudden. Eleven of Silas' contemporaries have blogs now..keeping up with them is a little like reading other people's baby books. If you are anything like me, it offers loads of entertainment. It is interesting how the voice(s) of the parent(s) really comes through in the chronicle of a baby's life - what people choose to write about and how. I'm realizing I always choose pictures over stories, hoping to give people a visual glimpse of everything he's up to, plus it is easier than trying to distill his busy life into poignant vignettes. But I should try to produce more of those, too/ He sure dows some funny stuff. And I can see that it is going to get more and more fun as the communication and movement develops. He's requiring such undivided attention these days that I have very little room in my head for any other concerns, which is luxurious in some ways and quite isolating in others. I hosted our weekly play/mom group last week and got that sense from all the other folks who are primary caregivers, too. Each day has this ironic "when is he going to get up so we can play and read and grow and have fun!" vs. "when is he going to sleep so I can think and clean and cook and breath!" duality to it which leaves little to no room for any real productivity or self-nurture. Duh, say all the seasoned parents...what was I expecting? Still, it is a gift to spend every day with him, getting to see his body and mind gearing up for some big accomplishments. There's no one else I'd rather be with right now.
And here he is, waking up.
Happy Birthday, Bec and Xia!
